North Horizon Heli Adventures · Nitmiluk Gorge helipad
Twenty minutes in a helicopter over the full Nitmiluk gorge system as the first light reaches the sandstone. It's the shortest flight that sees all 13 gorges, and the dawn slot gives you calm air and the best colour of the day.

This is the flight to book if you want the whole gorge without paying for a landing. North Horizon lifts off from its helipad inside the park and tracks the full system in 20 minutes: Baruwei Lookout, Southern Rockhole, Jedda's Rock, Butterfly Gorge, the Lily Ponds, Smitt Rock, the cascades of the 8th gorge and on to the 13th. A boat stops at gorge 3. This doesn't.
It runs in the dry season only, May to October, and the take-off time moves with sunrise: the pilots contact you directly to confirm it. You need to be at the helipad before first light, which means staying at the gorge (Cicada Lodge, the cabins or the campground) or in Katherine, 30 minutes away. Nobody does this from Darwin.
Two reviews so far, both 5 stars, both from the 2026 season. The flight doesn't land. If you want time on the ground, the sunset flight adds an escarpment landing and a drink for a little more.
Drive to the helipad by the Nitmiluk Centre. The pilot confirms the exact time beforehand.
Over Baruwei Lookout, Jedda's Rock and Butterfly Gorge as the light comes up.
Lily Ponds, Smitt Rock and the cascading water of the 8th gorge, country no boat reaches.
Turn at the 13th gorge and fly back in full morning light.
★★★★★Perfect weather, Mirium is a very professional pilot who made us feel safe and secure, a very enjoyable experience.
★★★★★This was great, the views were really good. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

No. For a landing, book the 40-minute sunset flight, the 70-minute remote landing flight or the rock art flight.
Not realistically. Darwin is about 3.5 hours' drive away, so you'd have to leave in the middle of the night. Stay at the gorge or in Katherine.
