Helicopter scenic flight · Nitmiluk Gorge helipad

The gorge, Leliyn and a remote landing

A long helicopter flight over the gorge and north to Leliyn (Edith Falls), then a landing in a section of the gorge that no road or track reaches. Book it if you want to see how the whole park fits together, and to stand somewhere almost nobody gets to.

70-Minute Helicopter Tour with Remote Landing

About this experience

Most flights here stay over the gorge. This one goes further: an extended route over Nitmiluk Gorge and then north toward Leliyn (Edith Falls), about 90 km away by road. The pilot points out Baruwei Lookout, Southern Rockhole, Jedda's Rock and Butterfly Gorge, then Biddlecombe Cascades and Crystal Falls, two of the waterfalls along the Jatbula Trail.

Then the helicopter drops into a secluded section of the gorge with no road or walking access, and you get about 20 minutes on the ground on the sandstone. That's the part guests remember. It's the only way most people will ever see the Jatbula country, and with the trail's 2026 season hit by the March floods, it may be the only way this year. Check NT Parks for the trail itself.

At $492 it's the most expensive flight on the list. The operator isn't named on the listing, but the helipad and wording match North Horizon Heli Adventures, which sells a similar 50-minute gorge and Leliyn flight without the landing.

  • Nitmiluk Gorge and Leliyn (Edith Falls) in one flight
  • About 20 minutes on the ground somewhere unreachable by road
  • Biddlecombe Cascades and Crystal Falls on the Jatbula route
  • Pilots who tailor the commentary to you, guests report
  • 70 minutes in the air and on the ground

What guests say

★★★★★

Fantastic helicopter trip with remote landing. The pilot was very friendly and informative, and looked to understand my interests to tailor the commentary and work out what to concentrate on. I'd definitely recommend it!

Tips before you book

  • Tell the pilot what you're into (birds, geology, photography) at check-in. One guest found the commentary was shaped around it.
  • Wear proper shoes: the landing site is rough sandstone, not a lawn.
  • Bring a hat and water for the 20 minutes on the ground. The rock throws back a lot of heat.
  • Pair it with the 2-hour cruise booked direct with Nitmiluk Tours on another morning: the boat shows you the scale from below.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 70-minute helicopter tour cover?

An extended flight over Nitmiluk Gorge and north to Leliyn (Edith Falls), past Biddlecombe Cascades and Crystal Falls, plus about 20 minutes on the ground at a remote spot in the gorge.

How long are you on the ground?

About 20 minutes, in a secluded part of the gorge with no road or walking track.

Is the 70-minute flight worth the price?

If you want to see the whole park and stand somewhere few people reach, yes. If you only want the gorge from above, the 20-minute 13-gorge flight is better value.

Can you swim at the landing site?

The listing doesn't include a swim. Swimming in the park is dry season only and depends on ranger crocodile checks. North Horizon sells separate heli swim flights.
